Course Updated to PMBOK Guide – Fourth Edition
A comprehensive project management program that provides practical
techniques for successfully completing projects within time, budget and scope/quality
constraints. Participants learn a step-by-step model to initiate, plan,
execute, control and close a project. Proven project management techniques are
applied to an in-class project. Five process areas are covered through
lecture, discussion and team exercises that take a project through the project
life cycle. The program concludes with an interactive discussion of the nine
knowledge areas that support the project management methodology.

Project Management: Introduction and Initiating Projects – Day 1
Learn practical ways for successfully completing projects within
time and budget constraints. Topics: definition of a project and project
management, project management phases, benefits of project management, project
life cycle, project management organizations, role of project manager, purpose
of the initiating process, and project charter.
Project Management: Planning Projects – Day 2
Focus on the planning process. Topics: purpose of the planning process,
the project plan, work breakdown structure, estimating and budgeting,
scheduling, staffing plan, and risk management plan. Prerequisite:
Introduction and Initiating Projects.
Project Management: Execution, Monitoring & Controlling and
Closing – Day 3
Managing project execution. Topics: purpose of the executing
process, executing activities, change requests, purpose of the controlling
process, performance reporting, integrated change control, purpose of the
closing process, administrative closure, and contract closeout.
